As the season begins to change and the weather becomes milder in Texas, it’s time to start thinking about taking advantage of the cooler weather with family-friendly fall activities. Dallas has plenty to offer year-round, but autumn makes for the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy the best that it has to offer. Here’s a list of events to check out with your loved ones this fall:
Autumn at the Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden will highlight thousands of pumpkins, gourds, and other festive foliage through November 21 at Autumn at the Arboretum. This year’s theme is “Adventures in Neverland,” featuring scenes from the timeless classic Peter Pan. The event takes place daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Adults: $15; children (3-12): $10; children under 2: free.
Chefs for Farmers
Chefs for Farmers is a four-day festival that gives you the opportunity to feast on delightful cuisine while supporting local chefs and farmers. While the event takes place in multiple locations, the main event occurs on November 4 from 2:30-6 pm in Dallas Heritage Village. Enjoy a variety of local food artisans, breweries, and live music.
General admission is $99 per person (ages 21+ only). Proceeds from Chefs for Farmers will support Youth With Faces’ charity new greenhouse and urban farm project that will expand opportunities for hands-on learning in the nonprofit’s Therapeutic Horticulture and Culinary Arts classes.
Festival at the Switchyard
Festival at the Switchyard is an annual street fair that is just a short drive from Dallas in Carrollton. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a day of family fun with free rides, carnival food, and entertainment. A performance by the Stone Temple Pilots awaits those who stay through to the evening. Admission is free for all. The festival takes place on Saturday, November 3 11AM – 10 PM in Carrollton’s downtown area (Main Street and Broadway).
Moritz Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot
If you and your family like to stay active, the 37th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot may be just the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. The event takes place on Thanksgiving Day – November 22, 2018, starting at 6115 Camp Bowie (Camp Bowie and Westridge in front of Frost Bank). This event will hold a 1K Gobbler Trot (8 a.m.), 10K (8:15 a.m.), and a 5K (8:30 a.m.)
