Preparing Your Home for an AC Tune-Up

Sometimes our customers ask how they should prepare their home for an AC tune-up. Oftentimes, people feel obligated to tidy their home before our technicians arrive. Rest assured we have seen homes of all conditions!

The most important thing is that we have a clear path to access your air conditioning equipment for servicing. Here are a few things you can do to help your AC tune-up run smoothly:

  1. Clear the Path to your Indoor Systems – Most indoor systems in DFW homes are located in the attic. So, do a visual inspection of the area from the front door to the attic. We’re always careful when entering your home, but we do bring in a large toolkit and bulky test equipment. If there is any furniture in the pathway, it may be helpful to move it out of the way. Relocate any valuable artwork or knick knacks on tables.
  2. Move Storage Boxes – If you have any containers or boxes that are located right next to your furnace, we’ll have to move those to access your equipment for servicing. If you can temporarily put them in a new place ahead of our visit, that would be helpful!
  3. Check Around your Outdoor Unit – Pick up any toys or debris that may be around your outdoor unit. If you have plants or trees, make sure they are trimmed back so that we can adequately service your system. Keeping the area around your outdoor unit clear is good practice all year round for the best efficiency.

Before the Technician Arrives

Life moves fast, and sometimes you need a little reminder. The day before your technician arrives, you’ll receive another notification via email and text message.

We have all dealt with service professionals that don’t send any communications after the scheduling. This can leave you feeling uncertain as to whether or not the appointment is still happening. With our reminder of your AC tune-up, you’ll never be left wondering.

The Day of your AC Tune-Up Visit

When you schedule your AC tune-up, you’ll be given a 3-hour window in which our team will arrive. But, that doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck at your home waiting. At Advent, we send a notification about an hour before our technician will be arriving at your house. That gives you the freedom to be out and about, or even stay at the office, until you know for sure we’re on our way.

Customers receive both an email and text that our technician is on the way. In addition, we include a picture of our HVAC tech. This way, you can trust to open your door to the right person. We really believe in making sure our customers feel comfortable with our team. That’s why we include the picture with our notification.

When our technician is on their way, this is a good time to begin securing any pets.

One thing to keep in mind is the weather. If it is raining, thundering, or lightning on the day of your AC tune up, we may need to reschedule. This is for the safety of our technicians.

What To Expect During Your AC Tune-Up

When our friendly technician arrives, they will be wearing our logo-embossed uniform. He or she will introduce themselves to you. You’ll receive a professional packet of information about our company, and more information about your HVAC system.

It is important to us that we respect your home during our visit. Our technician will put on shoe covers before entering your home. And, we’ll place a plastic sheet to protect your floors before lowering the ladder to your attic.

During the visit, the technician will be doing a combination of preventative maintenance and operation checks. For example, your technician will clean your indoor coils, ensure your condensate drain is not blocked, and check that the air temperatures your system is generating are within an acceptable range.  We will also change your air filter, rinse your outdoor unit, and check for any problems in your system.

Should our team see any issues that need your attention, they will advise you after the visit is complete. And, we’ll provide a quote on-the-spot for what those fixes will cost. In some cases, we’ll be able to perform the repair on the same day. Other times, we may need to order a specific part, and we’ll need to return for the repair.

The entire visit will take somewhere between an hour to an hour and a half for homes with one air conditioning system. In extraordinary circumstances, the visit may take as long as two hours. This is especially true if you haven’t had your system serviced in quite some time. Visits will definitely take longer if you have multiple air conditioners serving your house.

After Your AC Tune-Up

Before departing, our technician will review any key issues with you. Some items will be more critical than others. Our knowledgeable techs are happy to answer any questions you have about your system.

Throughout the tune-up visit, our technicians store key information about your air conditioning system on a tablet. We are better able to service your home in the future when we have this information on hand. For example, we can track and compare readings over time to see how your equipment is performing. Also, we can be sure we have the correct filter size on-hand when we arrive at your home.

A report with all of this information will be sent to you for your records. Not only is this helpful information for you, it can be great information to have on-hand if you decide to sell your home.

After the AC tune-up, you’ll enjoy the benefits of a properly maintained HVAC system. Not only will your air conditioning run more efficiently, but you have extended its life as well. Your mind will be at ease knowing that you will have headed off any unexpected breakdowns over the summer. You and your family will enjoy a cool, comfortable summer despite the Texas heat.

Something important about tune ups is that you may need to actually replace the AC Unit in case it’s very old. Sometimes the parts of old AC Units are not available anymore, so you need to be ready! Thank you for this article, it’s great.
